Chelsea Milling Company to Invest $35M Into Chelsea Plant

The makers of Jiffy Mix are looking to improve and expand their plant in Chelsea.

The Chelsea Milling Company is planning a $35 million renovation to the company's Chelsea-based plant.

Chelsea Milling Company, the makers of Jiffy Mix, said increased production needs and an aging workforce have inspired the company to begin a series of new construction projects and an overhaul of its facilities, according to an article on AnnArbor.com.

The expansion will take place during the next 5 to 7 years, and could expand the company’s manufacturing ability, CEO Howdy Holmes said in the article.

However, Holmes told AnnArbor.com that he expects the company's workforce to actually shrink, "The initial reason for lower staffing levels will be a wave of retirements the company has been seeing on the horizon for a number of years," the article states.

What do you think of the proposed changes?
