Students at North Creek and South Meadows elementary schools will attempt to consume 7,500 servings of fruit or vegetables through Jan. 31.

Students and staff at North Creek and South Meadows elementary schools in Chelsea are kicking-off 2013 with the second annual fruit and vegetable challenge.

According to the schools' website, the challenge will start Monday and run through Jan. 31, with a goal for each school to eat 7,500 servings of fruits or vegetables.

Teachers will keep track of fruits and vegetables consumed by students during the school day, and will be counted toward the school's final total. Servings of fruits and vegetables at home will not count toward the challenge but are encouraged.
