The cause of a small fire in a first floor men's bathroom at Chelsea High School is under investigation.
Firefighters with the Chelsea Area Fire Authority responded to the scene around 9:48 a.m. Thursday after a faculty member reported smelling smoke near the men's room.
"Part of the school was evacuated for precaution, but no one was injured," Lt. Lance Baird said. "Luckily (Principal Mike Kapolka's) quick reaction to grab a fire extinguisher helped prevent this small fire from turning into a tragedy."
Baird said damage to the soap dispenser and the bathroom wall was reported. The incident is being reviewed by the department's arson investigator and the Chelsea Police Department.
