Chelsea Firefighters File Paperwork to Establish Union

Four of the department's 12 firefighters signed a petition with the International Association of Firefighters in November.

The Chelsea Area Fire Authority may soon join dozens of collective bargaining groups in the state of Michigan if plan to unionize the department move forward.

According to a report by the Chelsea Update website, several Chelsea firefighters applied to the Michigan Employment Relations Committee to unionize the department in November.

Chelsea Update states that paperwork was filed with the International Association of Firefighters and four of the department’s 12 firefighters signed the petition.

In order to file the paperwork, 30 percent of the department must request it.
