Welcome to Chelsea Patch, a new interactive daily online news site devoted to all things Chelsea.
For the past year and a half, I have been covering Dexter and the surrounding townships as part of Dexter Patch, and I am excited to announce that we are expanding our special brand of local news coverage next door.
Chelsea is a great community with a rich history and a lot of stories to tell, and I want to be a part of it. And what better time to launch this site than right smack in the middle of .
I'm Daniel Lai, the local editor for the community. During the past several weeks, you've probably seen me wandering around town, camera in hand, snapping away at events, people and places. For those who were wondering, "Who is that crazy guy sprinting across the street 20 times with a bright green PATCH T-shirt," this welcome note may give you a better sense of who I am and how I plan to serve the community.
Before joining Patch, I worked for 3 1/2 years for Heritage Newspapers covering the communities of Manchester and later Chelsea and Dexter. Prior to that, I worked as a local field reporter for a small daily community newspaper in Taylor, TX.
We at Patch are professional journalists dedicated to bringing daily news, features, announcements, and event coverage to the community. But we can't do it alone.
That's where I need your help.
Chelsea Patch is built to serve as a forum for discussion about the community, by the community. You can be a part of this project by becoming a contributor. At the top of the page, click "sign up" to create a free account. Once you're registered with us, you'll have full control over what you can do on our site. Do you know of a fundraiser to help a Chelsea family? Write about it in our events section. Or maybe your son or daughter just got engaged. Tell the world by posting a free announcement. Is your club looking for volunteers? Post a request on our site. Do you have a special skill or maybe you are interested in writing for us? Patch offers users a free blogging tool to spread your message to the world.
Of course, if you have advice or just want to stop in and say hi, you can post comments directly on our site, and at the bottom of every story, too. We want to hear from you. Maybe you have a story idea or a hot news tip? You can e-mail it or call me at 734-223-6947. Some of the best stories are the ones you tell us about. You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
I look forward to meeting with all of you, working in the community and learning what makes Chelsea unique.
Until next time,
