Community Corner

Support for Local Residents

Bravo to the residents from Lyndon Township and Chelsea for speaking out regarding McCoig Material’s application for a Special Use Permit for a sand and gravel mine at the public hearing on March 13th.  I was honored to watch the proceedings and witness the love the residents of Lyndon Township and Chelsea have for their communities.  The comments of numerous expert and lay witnesses giving clear, articulate and accurate testimony about the potential harmful consequences of this permit application should leave no doubt in the minds of the Lyndon Township Planning Commission that this mining operation will not benefit the surrounding community.  It cannot be denied that granting the permit will cause very serious consequences to the residents, businesses and environment of the area.

The next opportunity to hear the Planning Commission and McCoig Material’s representatives address concerns will be on May 15. Lyndon Township has pertinent documents available on their webpage which I urge everyone to review.  While the public hearing portion of this review has ended, the Township will accept written comments sent to the Clerk at clerk-lyndon@twp-lyndon.org or to the Lyndon Township Hall, 17751 N. Territorial Rd., Chelsea MI 48118.
