Chelsea Builder Launches Home Inspection Business

Chris Felesky's Optimus Home Inspection LLC. offers first-time buyers 'peace of mind' in real estate market.

For first-time homeowners, the process of purchasing a home is both rewarding and stressful.

Dealing with contract negotiations, mortgage loans, and mountains of paperwork can be overwhelming. The last thing a home buyer needs to worry about is an unforeseen problem with his or her investment. That's why Chelsea resident Chris Felesky is reaching out to the community with his new business.

Felesky launched Optimus Home Inspection LLC. in December after working in the building and remodeling trade for more than 16 years.

"With the housing market slowly picking back up, I thought it was time to go in a different direction with my career," he said of the decision to start the company.

"A lot of the skills I learned in the construction business can be applied to home inspections in order to give people piece of mind when they are looking to buy a house," he said.

Optimus Home Inspection LLC is a full-service inspection company that offers everything from radon testing and house inspections, to well and septic inspections.

"You would be surprised what people find during a home inspection," Felesky said. "I haven't run into any major problems, but I've heard horror stories. Most of the problems I've come across are maintenance issues and normal wear and tear."

Felesky has extensive training through the American Home Inspector Training Institute, and is a member in good standing with the trade associations InterNACHI and NAHI.

"I place great importance on staying educated and current in my training. My ultimate goal is to give my clients peace of mind during the often overwhelming process of buying a home," he said.

Typically a proper home inspection takes about three hours, and costs roughly $325. To celebrate the business opening, Felesky will offer inspections for $150 through the end of March.

"I know what it's like to be in that situation of buying a home for the first time and not knowing what to do," he said. "It never hurts to have a second set of eyes look at a piece of property before the parties sign a purchase agreement."

Optimus Home Inspection LLC. services Washtenaw, Jackson, Livingston, Wayne, Oakland and surrounding counties.
