Man Refuses Breath Test, Arrested on Charges of Drunk Driving in Chelsea
The following information was supplied by the Chelsea Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.
A 36-year-old Gregory man was arrested by Chelsea police officers on Friday for refusing a breathalyzer test after officers stopped his vehicle for erratic driving.
According to police records, while on routine patrol, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers observed a vehicle driving down the 900 block of North Main Street without functioning tail lights.
Upon making contact with the driver, an officer could smell what he believed to be alcohol on the driver. The officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle and perform standard field sobriety tests. After completion of the sobriety tests the driver was requested to submit to a portable breath test, which he refused.
The suspect was read the chemical test rights and subsequently refused to consent to a blood draw. A search warrant was completed and the blood draw was completed at Chelsea Community Hospital. After completion of the blood draw, the suspect was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Having worked for an attorney who did divorce and small time criminal defense, with a fair number of those being drunk driving he most likely was drunk. My guess would be between the smell of alcohol and the results of the field sobriety tests, which I would say he didn't pass, his blood draw will come back and the drunk driving arrest will stand. When will people learn to not drink and drive?

I know what you mean. There are too many people we hear about who are hurt or killed by drunk drivers every year. Sad situation.
